Cafe By Default

Cafe By Default came to Odd Monk with a vision of curating a Visual Language and illustration that effectively grabbed people's attention. Their major point of desire was to show and highlight the authenticity of Lucknow City in a fun-loving manner that had a story to tell.

Odd Monk creatively visualised their vision and instantly started to act upon it. While doing so, the very famous Goan artist Mario de Miranda played a huge source of inspiration to this creativity. And gradually when Odd Monk was sure and confident with the vibrancy and mood of the vision, it implemented and successfully created one of the most artistic Cafes in Lucknow that perfectly brought the mood and culture of the city.

Lucknow is a city that wears its culture lightly — the nawabi elegance, the tehzeeb, the street food that rivals any metropolitan. The illustration style needed to honour all of that without turning it into a museum piece. Miranda's work was the perfect reference point: lively, characterful, unafraid of colour, and always telling a story within a single frame. Every wall, every menu, every touchpoint in the cafe became a canvas for this visual narrative, making the space feel like you'd walked into an illustrated love letter to the city itself.
